Layer: Fault Avoidance Zones (ID: 7)

Name: Fault Avoidance Zones

Display Field: Fault_name

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: These Fault Avoidance Zones (FAZs) should be used to assist future land use planning, particularly with regard to building on "Greenfield" (i.e. previously undeveloped land) sites or in the renovation of buildings in areas adjacent to active faults in accordance with the Ministry for the Environment "Planning for Development on or Close to Active Faults" (Kerr et al. 2003). The key attributes applicable to planning purposes are: Fault Complexity (the width and distribution of the deformed land around the fault trace); and Recurrence Interval (the average time between surface ruptures) Class.
